Novel

Remember Jill Sobule? Don't worry if you don't, as her claim to fame was way back in the 90's with a little diddy called I Kissed A Girl. That's not to say she hasn't done anything beyond that, though. She's churned out six albums for four different labels since then. But while the music industry is crumbling thanks to declining sales, the artists are becoming resourceful. Radiohead, for example, got the ball rolling back in the Fall when they self-released a digital-only version of their album In Rainbows at a name-your-own price. Well, Jill shakes things up even more by asking her fans to help fund her latest album by making donations.

Personally, I think this is a great idea. Now, I'm not a big enough fan of hers to drop any money without hearing anything first, but there are plenty of other artists that I would be more than willing to do so for. Assuming they'd be self-releasing the CD like Jill is, of course. If you are a fan of Jill's or just interested in seeing a break down of what your donation will get you, head on over to her official site for the project. She's off to a good start, having received $18,000 in one day.

And so there is...

http://www.jillsobule.com/showandtell.html

Where you can download free songs and an entire hour and a half concert. Hey, free is good.

She's smart and funny. A lot like Randy Newman or Warren Zevon.
