2008 is already shaping up to be quite promising music-wise. There are brilliant new albums on their way from the likes of
Sia,
Thao Nguyen with The Get Down Stay Down and
Marah. There are also some (like
Yeasayer and
MGMT) that will likely strike gold this year, despite releasing their material last autumn. Then there is
Ladyhawke (not to be confused with the Canadian rock band
Ladyhawk). The Australian newcomer is (surprisingly) unsigned (last I heard, please correct me if I'm wrong) and recorded her material all on her own. To put it simply, she's quite amazing. In fact, with her song
Back Of The Van, she's produced the best 80s song not actually conceived in that fashion challenged decade. Considering it's been around the blogosphere for about a year now, I can't say it's completely fresh. Here's hoping 2008 gets her the proper release she deserves, though.
