I was never a fan of the Terminator franchise, that is until now. I watched the pilot for the new FOX series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles the other night and I was impressed. Sure, it's not difficult to tell that they are working within the budget constraints of a television series, but it's still an entertaining ride almost from start to finish.
The series, set to debut mid-season in early 2008, picks up where T2 left off. Sarah Connor (Lena Headey) and her son, John (Heroes' Thomas Dekker), are on the run from the law. They've spent the past two years living a relatively normal existence, but then Sarah's boyfriend pops the question and she freaks out. Mother and son flee, which causes her boyfriend to go to the police for help. The manhunt for Sarah is back on and they track her down to New Mexico. What takes place there (a shoot out at John's new school) is set to be changed due to the massacre at Virginia Tech; however, at least in the pilot, John ends up meeting a school mate (Summer Glau) that turns out to be a terminator sent from the future to protect him.
I won't reveal much else, except that it left me wanting to see the second episode. This was the first episode, though, so they probably went all out on it. I know that future episodes will not feature a different terminator every week.
