Duffy is a 23 yr.-old Welsh singer-songwriter that recently placed second in Sounds Of 2008, which is an annual poll conducted by BBC 6 Music where industry experts rank the most promising new artists for the forthcoming year. Adele, who I recently posted about, took the top spot.Duffy's debut album, Rockferry, is due out the 3rd of March. The lead single and title track wasn't a favourite of mine, but her follow up Mercy is sheer brilliance. Unfortunately, because it's soul and she has that raspy voice and retro-vibe thing going on, there are those inevitable comparisons to fellow Brit Amy Winehouse. I say refrain from comparing. They are similar, but each bring something different to the plate.
