Tift Merritt is known for her alt country stylings; however, that's almost non-existent in her latest outing, Another Country. This album is more inspired by the likes of Joni Mitchell and other folk artists of the seventies.On first single, Keep You Happy, you can hear the anguish behind her elegant vocals, but the song remains uplifting. The remainder of the album is about the same. The songs are beautiful and poignant, with an underlying sorrow that never overwhelms. It is easily one of the better albums so far this year.
